New to specifying equipment for a build? Here is a quick reference to the machines you will see on most Philippine sites and the jobs they are built for.
Excavator (backhoe)
Digging, trenching, demolition, and loading. Tracked, with a cab that rotates 360 degrees. Sized from 1 ton to 30-plus tons.
Backhoe loader
A loader bucket at the front and a digging arm at the back. The versatile all-rounder for small and mid-size sites, and road-legal so it is quick to move.
Wheel loader (payloader)
Loading loose material, building and reclaiming stockpiles, and site cleanup. Fast cycle times on firm ground.
Dump truck
Hauling spoil, aggregate, and fill. Rigid trucks for roads and yards; articulated dump trucks for rough, soft sites.
Vibratory compactor (pison)
Compacting soil, sub-base, and asphalt. Single-drum rollers for earthworks, tandem rollers for road surfaces.
Boom truck
A truck fitted with a hydraulic crane for loading and placing materials, poles, and tanks — and it loads itself.
Mobile crane
Lifting and placing heavy loads. Rough-terrain and truck-mounted types, almost always rented with an operator.
